The Top 40 Under 40 program, presented in partnership with Northbridge Insurance, recognizes emerging leaders across Canadian construction. Selection criteria include commitment to excellence, fostering innovation, and leading by example. The 2026 class represents firms behind some of Canada's largest infrastructure and ICI projects.
"The nominees share several standout qualities, including a commitment to excellence, fostering innovation and leading by example," wrote Jonathan Graham, Underwriting Director at Northbridge Insurance, in the program introduction. "They represent companies behind some of Canada's largest and most notable infrastructure and ICI projects, applying cutting-edge techniques and exploring new technologies, including AI-powered solutions, to enhance productivity, collaboration and project delivery."
Background
Michalatos brings more than eight years of experience across institutional, infrastructure, and commercial projects. He worked as an industrial designer at Stantec on P3 projects, a project manager at Honeywell, an M&E manager at EllisDon on hospital design-builds, and a real estate developer at QuadReal before co-founding Buildcheck in 2023.
He holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from Stanford University, which he attended on a Canadian Fulbright scholarship. He grew up in Vancouver in a construction family; his father built single-family homes across Richmond and Vancouver for decades.
In his words
